Coach: Mickey Allen aka The Flash

Coach Mickey Allen crossing the finish line!

I started running in the late 70's, completing my first Sound to Narrows Race in Tacoma in 1979. I've done the Sound to Narrows 36 times as well as many 5k's and lots of 10ks. I ran my first marathon at the City of Tacoma Marathon in 1981 in a time of 2:52:15. I qualified for Boston 2 months later at the Seattle Marathon with a time of 2:50:58 and ran my first Boston in 1982 when Alberto Salazar beat Dick Beardsley in the Duel in the Sun. I went back to Boston 20 years later in 2002 and have run it every year since then for a total of 14 in a row and 15 Boston's overall. My marathon PR was a 2:47:49 at the Emerald City Marathon in 1987. I have run 42 marathons  and I won the Paso Robles marathon in 2011 in a time of 3:04:08. I've been a member of the Mudrunners of Point Defiance since 1981 and have run on Hood to Coast and Rainier to Ruston Relay team am Marathon Maniac #: 196!

Running has kept me in shape to be able to do many things that most people my age,(I'm 59 and will be 60 before Boston) no longer think they can do such as hiking, basketball, water skiing and snow skiing. Running has also led to many new friendships over the years. It can be a very social activity, and has connected me to many people along the way. I am a general contractor mostly building houses and duplexes but I also built the Fleet Feet building in Proctor.
